Professor Emeritus of Religion, Point Loma Nazarene University. Retired as Professor of Biblical Theology and Greek, Point Loma Nazarene College

Personal

Born 5/27/28 near Crookston, Nebraska, on a cattle ranch, attended one room country school, went to high school at both Crookston and Valentine, Nebraska. Lived on the ranch until leaving for College. Married Betty Joan Ireland, March 31, 1949, from Port Huron, Michigan, jan elementary school teacher, retired in June, 1992. Two children, Mark E. Carver, born March 7,1952, Lake Forest, California, and Carol Carver born February 14, 1956, Cincinnati, Ohio. Eight grandchildren, Alysa, Joseph, Robert, David, Rachel, Jordan, Braven, Tobin in order of age, and one greatgrand-daughter, Erica Harris.

Church Status

Member of the Church of the Nazarene since 1951. Ordained as an Elder on the Nebraska District in 1955. Retired as an Elder on the Southern California District, June 1999. Pastored in the Church of the Nazarene in Rulo, Nebraska (1954?), Kimball, Nebraska (1954-1956); Edison, New Jersey (1956-1958); and in Edinburgh, Scotland (1959). Also pastored a few months in a Baptist Church across the Firth of Forth in Scotland (1959). Co-teacher of the "Come and Go" Sunday School class with Herbert L. Prince at the First Church of the Nazarene, San Diego, CA.

Editorial Board, Lockman Foundation since 1961 and member of the translating team for the New American Standard Bible. A member of the editorial team for the hopefully forthcoming New American Standard Study Bible, authored the notes for 1 and 2 Corinthians. Church of the Nazarene: Church Growth Symposium, 1978-1979. Church of the Nazarene: Curriculum Committee, Enduring Word Series, 1976-1980. With some gaps during the years 1961-1999 taught SS at Pasadena First and San Diego First Churches of the Nazarene.
